How TENS works
1. It interferes with pain signals travelling to the brain.TENS works using a concept known as the “Gate Control Theory of Pain,” first described in 1965 by Ronald Melzack and Patrick Wall.This theory explains that the spinal cord acts like a “gate” that controls which signals reach the brain. When the TENS machine sends gentle electrical pulses through pads on the lower back, these sensations compete with and reduce the pain signals coming from contractions. As a result, the brain receives fewer pain messages, and the intensity of labour pain may feel reduced.2. It encourages the release of endorphins.TENS stimulation can also trigger the body to release endorphins, which are natural hormones that help relieve pain and promote a sense of wellbeing.

The sticky electrode pads need to be placed correctly for maximum effect.For best placement a support person helping you to place them on is recommended.
